IN reply to your correspondent last week it seems to me that increasingly we seem to pass the responsibility for our individual actions onto others, whether it be national or local government.

It is not the layout of the road that kills people along the North Bank, but drivers who insist on driving at speeds not suitable for the prevailing conditions which yes does include the fact that there is a large expanse of water adjacent to the road.

I suspect the people who get excited about these things are exactly the same people who complain about the so called "nanny state".

We really do need to accept that we have a duty as individuals to act in a responsible manner and it is only when collectively we can do this that all road deaths will be reduced.
