Such fines would put off any visitor

WHILE visiting Wisbech with an elderly relative we parked in the Horse Fair car park.

My relative obtained the parking ticket and displayed it in the car without my seeing it. I saw no signs indicating a parking time limit so had no indication of the limit or of any penalty for overstaying.

We lost track of the time and returned to find a parking ticket for overstaying the two hours maximum by 15 minutes.

The car park was not full and no problem was caused by our overstaying.

I do accept that we overstayed, but a £60 penalty is rather steep for overstaying a time limit - being the same penalty for the much more dangerous offence of speeding on the highway.

Surely a penalty of £10-£20 would be more appropriate. And why no better signs to warn people?

DoesWisbech really wants people to visit and spend their money in the town at all? They are certainly going about the right way to put people off doing so.

I can tell you that I shall not be visiting Wisbech again for any purpose let alone shopping.
