Sincere thanks from the Mayor of Wisbech

I AM writing to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the Rose Fair.

I AM writing to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the Annual Rose Fair last week. I have tried to thank as many people and groups as possible below, if I have not mentioned you individually I apologise sincerely - the thanks to all who contributed are genuine and heartfelt.

The centre piece of Rose Fair was of course the parish church of St Peter and St Paul, once again beautifully decorated with floral arrangements of the highest quality.

The church gardens were filled with dozens of stalls, many for local charities, manned by volunteers. My thanks go to Father Paul West, his Church Wardens and other helpers for all their work throughout the year that culminates in Rose Fair.

I visited several other churches which had also been superbly decorated with fresh flowers in many vibrant displays.

The volunteers who gave up their time to assist in the car and coach parking must be commended, for their generosity and good humour, at all times.

The volunteer team from NACRO were superb in giving out information to the visitors from the HQ in Museum Square.

The Round Table once again organised the two parades on the Saturday of Rose Fair, a magnificent effort.

To the organisations that entered decorated floats for the parades, I salute the effort and ingenuity that went in to producing such high quality floats. It was a hard decision for the judges to select the prize winners.

I must thank the haulage companies that so generously donate their vehicles, without which there would be no parade.

I would also like to congratulate the businesses that entered the decorated shop window competition, again a hard decision to choose the winner.

I spent quite a time watching various musical groups, Cantus and The Clarkson Singers were both excellent. I saw a number of school choirs, bands and dancers perform to a very high standard. I also enjoyed the various performers in Museum Square, a very diverse mix of musical styles but all performed with skill and enthusiasm. Wisbech is certainly blessed with a lot of talent.

I was made welcome at many places over Rose Fair and I thank you all for your hospitality and good wishes.

I would like to thank all our visitors for coming to the town, and for their kind and generous comments about Wisbech. And for the people of Wisbech for coming together to show the town off to its absolute best.

I would like to thank my Mayoress, Sara, for tirelessly supporting me over Rose Fair.

And finally to Alistair my Beadle for his patience and good humour over the duration of the Fair, and for looking after Sara and I so well.

I am already looking forward to Rose Fair 2011.
