I REFER to the letter in last week's Standard from Brian Payne headed 'A little respect and dignity please'.

Where was the respect from Mr Payne in not refraining from publicly chastising the town beadle for the light-hearted technique he displayed, in colourful splendour, at the recent Asda charity rose sale.

As this was a non-civic event and I believe the style of pose was at the photographer's request, I feel sure Alistair Hopkins felt more than happy to oblige on this charitable occasion - something which deserves gratitude and not criticism.

As Mr Payne has enlightened us to his position as chairman of Wisbech Society, I sincerely hope he was "the only person in Wisbech to be surprised and disappointed by the photograph".

I feel sure he need have no fear that our town beadle will act with respect and dignity on each occasion according to its merits.

Keep smiling Alistair. Well done and thank you.
