Is a driving ban sufficient?

QUITE often in your court reports a defendant who has been found guilty of driving with no insurance or licence will be given a driving ban as part of his or her sentence. I am baffled. How can this be a punishment for someone who does not have a licence

QUITE often in your court reports a defendant who has been found guilty of driving with no insurance or licence will be given a driving ban as part of his or her sentence.

I am baffled.

How can this be a punishment for someone who does not have a licence and should not be driving anyway? Any thoughts?
