I AM a 57 year old grandfather. Recently I was staying with friends in Wisbech when I saw a youth of enter their garden by climbing over the six foot wall surrounding their property.

When I asked the youth what he thought he was doing his reply was a volley of verbal abuse and punches, knocking my glasses from my face and damaging them beyond repair. In self defence I wrestled the youth to the ground and sat astride him whilst trying to protect myself from the kicking and punches that his two friends, now tried to give me until help arrived.

In front of witnesses the first youth made various threats. When the police arrived I was informed b the officer that if I wanted to pursue the matter I would be charged with affray!

I have a question for Wisbech.

Why are the police seemingly taking this stance of treating victims that defend themselves or property from thugs as criminals?
