SINCE reading your front page news of the proposed plan for hostel conversion of the Queen's Hotel I am amazed that any consideration of this proposition would be given by any councillor or citizen of Wisbech.

Its proximity to the key tourist attractions of the town - Octavia Hill Birthplace House, Peckover House, the Clarkson Memorial, Town Bridge, and the Harbour included - should be sufficient reason.

The description by Councillor Phil Webb that they are "undesirables" is consistent with employers not desiring to employ drunken or addicted people, or banks and building societies refusing to lend or rent property.

If we have to accommodate these people we have two hostels already, it should be in a less prominent site.

If the use of the hotel is crucial to our society we could possibly use it for a home for children taken into care, to protect them from the lifestyle of the people you are proposing to accommodate.
