Archant

With a star-studded female cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna, ‘Ocean’s 8’ is the ultimate heist movie - it really has to be seen to be believed.

Fast-paced and with a meticulous attention to detail, eight women - some criminals, others bored with the mundanity of every day life - plan to get their hands on a $150 million dollar diamond necklace by infiltrating one of the most famous events in the world, the Met Gala.

The fascinating first half of the film is spent watching ring leader Sandra Bullock rounding up the troops (so to speak) - each one of them playing a crucial part in the execution of the heist, bringing different skillsets to the group whether it be computer hacking, pickpocketing or jewellery cutting.

A sequel of sorts to the original Ocean’s movies, it’s refreshing that this time round there’s virtually no violence and in the era of #MeToo the women reign supreme. Even James Corden as an investigator can’t thwart their master plan.

With plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the way and witty one-liners throughout, it’s a rewarding addition to the Ocean’s franchise.

‘Ocean’s 8’ is now showing at the Light Cinema in Wisbech.
