The Angles Theatre held three successful ‘Les Miserables’ audition workshops last week - but they are still looking to fill a number of male roles.
Between 20 and 30 hopeful and eager young performers turned up on each of the three audition days.
They were taught the melodies of some of the songs from the classic musical and how to deliver them with passion and varying emotions.
Emlyn Moment, from the Angles Theatre, said: “Some of the kids performed surprisingly well” and Robert Williams, musical director, added: “That girl was absolutely astonishing in her delivery of ‘On My Own’ which is one of the hardest songs to deliver with true emotion.”
Emlyn said: “Ten years ago Robert Williams was a sixth form student at Wisbech Grammar and played the role of Marius in the Angles Theatre’s first production of Les Misérables school edition.
“He knows the musical inside out and because his singing, performing ability and enthusiasm for the show has grown so much over the past ten years, the Angles is extremely happy to have him as the musical director for this latest production.
“Although all the female roles could be cast we were sadly short of potential performers for the two main roles of Valjean, a strong tenor and Javert, an equally strong baritone.
“There are also a few minor male roles in the chain gang, ABC students and Thenardier’s gang, where boys with a reasonable singing ability would be very welcome”, he added.
