FOR the first time in 600 years armoured knights and their ladies will return to the gardens of Wisbech Castle to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
On Saturday July 17 The Knights of Honour, a historical re-enactment group, will present a day of authentically costumed activities based on the 14th century.
Visitors will see demonstrations of arming the knights and hand-to-hand combat. In addition, there will be displays of crafts and cookery from the period.
The former Norman stronghold, once used to quell rebellious Fenlanders, is managed and owned by Cambridgeshire County Council.
Cambridgeshire County Councillor Sir Peter Brown, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Wisbech Castle has a wealth of history and this event will help bring it vividly to life.
“School children from across the area have already seen the recent archaeological digs for the Bishops palace.
This event will have something for all the family.”
Admission is from 10am, at the Castle’s Market Street gate. Entrance costs �3 for adults, �2 for children and refreshments will be available in the Castle’s lower hall.
