There will also be four hours of free outdoor entertainment and a peal of church bells.

Earlier in the day the festival will stage a variety of music on a new borough council stage on the Tuesday Market Place between 11am and 4pm.

As well as classical guitar, the A4 Brass Quartet, Harry Strutters Jazz Magic and Spalding’s Ukulele Orchestra there will be a visit by some of the stars of BBC’s Friday Night is Music Night.

Duelling violinists Vladimir and Anton are also coming to King’s Lynn on Sunday. For 45 minutes from 12.45pm the Slovakian brothers, who now live in Ireland, will give a free family show talking about and playing their violins. They will also perform in the Tuesday Market Place at 3pm.

Also at 3pm a team of bell-ringers led by David Brown will begin a newly-created peal entitled King’s Lynn Festival Delight Major in the bell-tower at St Nicholas’ Chapel.

The annual Contemporary Consort performance on Tuesday will this year feature guest composer Robin Holloway who will also talk about his music.

Thursday (July 20) offers a rare opportunity to watch the first horror film, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, accompanied by live music by four-piece group, Minima.

Some of the musicians performing during the festival will also be involved in free “pop-up” events.

The first will be given by recorder player Annabel Knight who will take a variety of wind instruments to Groundwork Gallery in Purfleet Street on July 21 at 3pm to play works which reflect the gallery’s Bird After Bird exhibition.

The festival exhibition, Ships and Boats, in the Fermoy Gallery at Lynn Arts Centre, features works by artist and mariner Alfred Wallis loaned by Kettle’s Yard, part of the University of Cambridge, which has the largest collection of Wallis’s work.
