WISBECH Hockey Club's younger players took the bragging rights with a narrow victory.
Due to no league games over Easter and no tour this year Wisbech Hockey Club held a friendly match between their under-25 and over-25 male players.
The youngsters were lead by Dan Martell and the elders by Joe Melton, both first team regulars.
The older team was hampered by the loss of several first team players whilst the youngsters had players to spare.
As expected the youngsters made a strong start and rushed into an early lead which increased at regular intervals.
Sam Blunt notched two early on and along with Andy Mills, making a return to Wisbech after National League exploits in Sheffield, lead the over-25s back line a merry dance.
Toward the end of the half the elders fought back and scored a couple of goals that really ought to have been saved.
The second half followed a similar pattern although the elder side now had the measure of their younger cohorts.
Paul Jackson scored the goal of the day with a first-time strike for the over-25 side and first team sweeper Nick Osborn, revelling in his forward role, also scored.
A rare goal from Charlie Baxter put the youngsters beyond reach before James Mansfield pulled a late goal back for the elders, something he has failed to do in league hockey this season.
The game had been excellently umpired by men's first team captain James Sheppard and ladies' second team captain Kat Doyle.
It was seen as an enjoyable afternoon for all in spite of the cold and will no doubt be replayed at some point in the future when a full complement of over 25s will look to show the youngsters what hockey is about.
