WISBECH Town's under-10 development squad showed their promise with a superb win against a strong Cambridge United elite youth team.
In their first real test as a new squad, the Wisbech youngsters played some fine football to record a 2-1 win at Cambridge, on Saturday.
Wisbech opened the scoring when Harry Wrate and Jack Friend combined before Friend unleashed a shot into the top corner.
United got back on to level terms when a player was allowed to run at the defence and put his shot past the Wisbech keeper Dean Grogan.
But the young Fenmen responded with a superb performance and they were rewarded with a winning goal from Jake Baldry, who turned 20 yards out and curled in a shot.
The man of the match award went to Joe Mummery for an excellent game in midfield.
Wisbech squad: Dean Grogan, James Buller, Matthew Carey, Josh Ovendale, Jake Baldry, Jordan Thacker, Jack Friend, Harry Wrate, Ben Calvert, Lewis Welcher, Joe Mummery, Pat Smith.
