Wisbech Town manager Gary Setchell has admitted that his side’s inconsistent early season form has made it hard to attract new players.
The Fenmen sit in 10th in the UCL Premier Division standings and have only won half of their 10 games so far, and former King’s Lynn Town boss Setchell says that run is making recruitment difficult.
“Wisbech isn’t an easy sell at the minute,” he said.
“We’re half way down the league, lost four games this year and have a really tough draw in the FA Vase.
“We’re not selling dreams and we’re not paying thousands of pounds.
“I’ve put a seven day approach in for probably four of five players and we want to try and get one or two in.
“The lads who have left, I feel, left because they don’t want to work hard. They threw the towel in.
“The lads who are here do want to work hard and they’re the ones I want to work with.
“We will add one or two lads and start trying to build for the rest of the season.”
Results, however, have picked up since Setchell’s arrival and the Fenmen claimed an important point from their trip to rivals Yaxley on Tuesday evening.
Jordan Yong put the visitors ahead from the spot in the second half before in-form striker Alex Beck notched his seventh goal in three games after the hour.
But Yaxley, managed by former Fenmen chief Brett Whaley, responded well and claimed a point courtesy of Joe Butterworth and a last-minute strike from Daniel Cotton.
The draw was Setchell’s first points dropped as boss. He had added a fourth straight win the previous Saturday thanks to a 5-1 hammering of lowly Wellingborough Whitworths.
Beck struck twice and Michael Frew, Adam Millson and Josh Ford added their names to the score sheet as Wisbech hit their second consecutive five-goal haul.
Wisbech will look to get back to winning ways on their trip to Wellingborough Town on Saturday afternoon (3pm).
The Doughboys have lost five of their nine league matches, but picked up an impressive 3-0 success over Cogenhoe United last time out.
