A CROWD of 101 watched Wisbech Town lose to local rivals Ely City last night in a fiercely contested derby.

A super strike from Robbie Mason was enough to secure the three points for the Robins. He turned and shot from 12 yards early in the second-half.

Ely's goal sparked an onslaught from Wisbech and they continued to turn the screw for much of the second-half. They also had shouts for a penalty late on, but their appeals were waved away by the referee.

The defeat, in Dick Creasey's last game as Wisbech Town manager, left the Fenmen 10th in the Ridgeon's Premier League.

Creasey said: "It was a typical local derby performance from both sides. There was not a great deal of football played, but in fairness Ely did take their goal well.

"We did have a solid appeal for a penalty turned down, but we didn't really perform."

Wisbech entertain Leiston on Saturday at The Nest in Outwell.
