The Wisbech Town Hockey Club has had a busy weekend competing against the Cambs South team on Saturday, September 29.

Results:

MENS 3rd TEAM v CAMBS SOUTH 2’s: 1 - 4 LOSS

The whole team acquitted themselves very well against strong opposition and Wisbech defended well.

Dan Robb scored what was the best goal in the game. It will be a very hard season ahead but with great team spirit all the men are more than up to the demands in front of us.

Player of the Match was Mike Lawrence.

MENS 4th TEAM v CAMBS SOUTH 5’s: 0 - 5 LOSS

Mens 4th’s welcomed Cambs South 5th’s in their 1st match of the season after St Neots cancellation last week.

Wisbech fielded six players having their first senior match. Cambs South turned up with 14 adults and it looked like a tough game was coming.

Saturday was all about seeing where the new players felt comfortable.

Cambs South started strong and had us on the back foot early on but the 4ths stuck at it and started to hold their own.

The score was a respectable 2 - 0 at half time and they were still in the game.

The second half was much better for the 4ths who had far more possession in midfield and the young strike force almost hit the net.

The visitors experience soon showed with a succession of short corners and the final score was 5 - 0.

In all honesty not a bad result it could have been double figures. All the new guys slotted in well and the team will soon look organised.

Some great individual performances too many to mention. Well done chaps.

Man of the Match was Will Jupp.

LADIES 3rd TEAM v CAMBS SOUTH 4’s: 0 - 3 LOSS

The ladies yet again went out and performed well putting their new style of play into action. Cambs South came with speed and experience and switched their play frequently.

Wisbech defence put in some really great work but Cambs were able to fumble an early goal. The ladies still kept trying to push forward but couldn’t maintain possession near Cambs ‘D’ and Oliwia Bolka despite her speed couldn’t get through a well worked defence. 0 to 3 at half time.

Second half the Wisbech ladies came out with much more composure and structure and fought hard to get the game back.

They had far more possession of the ball and any attacking play from Cambs was soon closed down. Helen Pentelow stepped up and took one for the team in goal and put in some great saves preventing the score line increasing!

Some really strong work at the back from vice captain Lisa Lowe and Nicola Greville but everyone played their part in holding Cambs back in the second half. Well done Amelia Garfoot on your debut for the team!
