LOSS 1-4

With injury being a factor this week Wisbech travelled to Broxbourne and started very well but missed vital chances to take the lead. Danny Haynes takes one for the team stopping the counter attack.

Going into half time the mood in the camp was very high and the men came flying out the blocks in the second half. They dominated possession with the mid fielders supplying balls to Tom Jupp and Ryan Jackson. Wisbech had consecutive shorts corners and their confidence grew until Broxbourne hit Wisbech on the counter attack putting the game to bed.

The spirits still did not drop with the club legend gazzer quoting” best team performance so far this year”.

With this heartbreaking defeat the men will hit back against Potters Bar hoping get the win next weekend.

MENS 3rd TEAM v SPALDING 2’s

LOSS 0-7

The MENS 3rd team hosted a very strong Spalding side and the Wisbech men worked hard to keep them at bay.

The organised visitors won a succession of short corners and finally broke the deadlock.

The pressure was constant and more goals followed. Not a great result but some good individual performances.

MENS 4th TEAM v ST IVES 5’s

DRAW 0-0

After last weeks game the 4ths were hoping for a better result.

They started strong and soon realised they were dealing with anything St Ives could throw at them and It looked like it could be their day.

Josh Watson had a great game at the back and was a contender for man of the match along with Aiden Falcus in goal who kept them in the game. Midfield was strong and the boys up front went on the rampage time and time again.

Nick Eggleton their centre back was the man on form Saturday running the full length of the pitch with the ball repeatedly and we must tell the youngsters to follow his lead.

This was a proper developement team battle, either team could of snuck a winner, but it ended 0-0.

A fantastic performance all round, we couldn’t have asked for more today, well done everyone.

LADIES 1st TEAM v IPSWICH & EAST SUFFOLK WIN 4-0

Wisbech ladies started the first 20 minutes with every intention of taking the game to I-ES. The whole team moved as a unit and with some sharp passing from Laura Overland to Joey Gomm the ladies were rewarded with a goal from Megan Fey. Within minutes Laura Overland converted a well taken short corner taking the team to a 2-0 lead at half time.

In the second half the entire defence worked tirelessly and kept a clean sheet. Ellie Padmore took on the defence and scored with a reverse stick in the corner. Izzy pope who ran continuously in mid-field linked up superbly with Emma Baker to play a 1-2 around I-ES with Baker slotting home. Wisbech were close to extending their lead further when Sharon Empson scored from the top of the goal, sadly the goal did not stand as the whistle was blown seconds before.

LADIES 3rd TEAM v ELY 2’s

LOSS 1-2

With Wisbech facing a heavily supported Ely team who played four higher players, the rule book forced the opposition to play just 11.

The ladies came out strong and full of optimism to get some points. They held off Ely for a while and took the game to them with some great work right across the pitch. The defence worked really hard and transferred the ball out to midfield effectively and there was some fantastic work in goal from Louisa Allen. Wisbech had plenty of opportunities to equalise but just couldn’t find the power to finish. Ely were the first to score with a well worked goal and great finish going into half time 1-0 up.

Second half the ladies came out fighting for every ball and had the upper hand creating more and more chances, but a short corner for the opposition gave them 2-0 lead. Wisbech didn’t let their heads drop and the ball kept getting fed though to the forwards but Ely’s well organised defence kept preventing the ladies breaking through.

A few minutes before the final whistle Andrea Eggleton found herself near the top of the D and hit the ball superbly first time and got Wisbech their first goal of the season. Off the back of the goal the the team pushed hard for the equaliser but sadly time ran out.

The ladies results are improving week by week and newcomer this season Oliwia Bolka got PoM for excellent work rate and repeatedly creating chances on goal.
