Wisbech Town coach Dan Dobson is hoping Saturday’s UCL Cup clash with Leicester Nirvana can save the Fenmen’s season after they fell a second successive defeat last Saturday.

The Fenmen travelled to Eyensbury Rovers looking to bounce back from their home defeat against Northampton Spencer, but a solitary goal from Rovers’ Matthew Bannister condemned Wisbech to their eighth defeat of the season.

Coach Dobson is now looking to the Fenmen’s cup encounter with league-leaders Leicester Nirvana tomorrow afternoon to give the club something to smile about.

He said: “Getting a good win against them will bring back confidence. It’s going to be difficult but we need to push on in cup competitions to bring something back this season.”

Wisbech drew a blank against Eyensbury, and their forwards have struggled for form in recent weeks, with the Fenmen’s front three not netting in their last seven games – which Dobson puts down to a lack of composure in front of goal.

“We’re just not ruthless enough in front of goal,” he said. “We’re not taking chances and we’ve made poor decisions in the final third. We haven’t been positive enough to take the ball forward into the box.

“In the last seven games we haven’t had a goal from our front three – all the goals have come from midfield.”

The winners of Saturday’s cup tie will face Olney Town in the quarter-finals, and Dobson believes the Fenmen need to repay their fans’ loyalty with a good cup run.

He said: “We owe the club a win and we owe the supporters a win because they keep coming down and backing us.”
