Wisbech Town boss Brett Whaley has warned his mis-firing frontmen their goal drought must end.
Top-scorer Matt Sparrow and fans’ favourite Chris Bacon have both failed to score in the past four matches while recent recruit Michael Frew is yet to find the net in five appearances for the club.
And Whaley wants that to change when his side travel to Eynesbury Rovers tomorrow, 3pm, bidding to begin another good run of results after suffering a setback at the hands of Northampton Spencer last Saturday.
He said: “We have to score more goals as a team and the responsibility for doing that is really down to the forwards.
“They have all drawn a blank lately and that is something we need to change.
“I have faith in them and believe they are capable of being regular scorers at this level, but the pressure is on them to prove me right.
“We find ourselves in the middle of the table and that is not where we want to be.
“We showed we can put a run of results together before losing last Saturday and
now we need to start building another one. An unbeaten run is not good enough in our position thought - we need to be winning games.
The trip to Eynesbury marks the start of a run of three successive away games in the Premier Division.
The Fenmen don’t have another home league fixture until Boxing Day when they entertain title-chasers Holbeach.
Wisbech do have two home cup clashes before then as they Premier Division leaders Leicester Nirvana in the League KO Cup on December 5 and Soham Town
Rangers in a rescheduled Cambs Invitation Cup quarter-final three days later.
Whaley has added coach Elio Salerno to his management team. Salerno, a former non-league footballer himself, has worked in the Peterborough United youth
set-up.
Whaley added: “Elio is a good coach with experience of working in the Posh Academy set-up. He wants to progress in men’s football and this is a good opportunity for him to do that.
“He will be a good addition both immediately in an in the long-term.”
