WISBECH Town boss Steve Appleby has admitted he may struggle to hold onto flying winger Matt Lunn if he continues to improve following the wideman’s sensational performance against Diss Town.

Lunn bagged a thunderbolt during the Fenmen’s 4-3 win at Wivenhoe Town on Saturday and followed it up with another fine effort during Tuesday night’s 4-1 league cup victory over Diss.

“On Saturday I told Matt Lunn he could be playing at Conference level,” said Appleby.

“It’s just about whether he has the desire to get on the ball more and make things happen.

“When Matt’s got the ball it’s not a problem but he needs to start making people give him the ball in the right areas and then he would be more dangerous than he already is.

“If he added that to his game I don’t think he’d be with us for very long because he’s a very classy player.”

The Fenmen host Leiston at the Tom Wood’s Beer Fenland Stadium tomorrow and Appleby is adamant that the visitors are still his “clear favourites” to win the Ridgeons Premier Division.

He said: “I told Chris Dear after we beat them 3-1 that whoever finishes above them will win the league and I still think that’s the case even though Dereham and Wroxham are sitting pretty.

“We’ve got to try and do what we did in that first game and give them no time on the ball and I think the lads will relish the challenge.”
