TERRY ROUGHTON has been tipped to win this year's 750 Motor Club Stock Hatch Championships after picking up his first victory of the season.

Roughton won the final race at Cadwell Park on Sunday to move second in the championships, behind last year's champion Ryan Bensley, from King's Lynn.

It was the second victory of his racing career and he also picked up a fourth place in Saturday's final.

Roughton was one of six drivers from the Wisbech area to compete at Cadwell Park.

Sunday's final was the fifth race of the 14-race season.

Sixty seven drivers competed in Saturday's qualifying.

Paul Tibbs, a former Stock Hatch racer and father of current driver Andrew Tibbs, said: "Terry's been racing near the front for some time and he's doing particularly well this year. To get the second race win of his career is fantastic and he's got a great chance of winning the championship."

Roughton won from starting third position on the grid.

On the same say, fellow local drivers Andrew Tibbs finished ninth from starting 19th, Gareth Wright started 17th and finished 10th and Robbie Boon started 12th but didn't finish after coming worse off in a collision with Wright and Tibbs.

In Saturday's final Joe McMillan finished 14th, Wright finished 11th and Boon didn't finish due to gear box problems.

The same problem prevented McMillan from competing in Sunday's final.
