It wasn’t quite a baptism of fire, but Wisbech St Mary were given a tough afternoon in their Thurlow Nunn Division One debut on Saturday.
Arran Duke’s men, playing in Step Six for the first time, fell to a 2-0 defeat to a young AFC Sudbury Reserves side infront of a packed Beechings Close ground courtesy of a goal in each half from the Suffolk side.
120 spectators saw St Mary fall behind in the 33rd minute through an unfortunate own goal and Wisbech searched for an equaliser in the second half until Oliver Dunlop sealed the three points for Sudbury.
Wisbech will hope to bounce back and claim their first Thurlow Nunn Division One points - and local bragging rights - when they take the short trip to the GER ground to face March Town tomorrow night (7.45pm).
