WISBECH seconds narrowly lost out in a tight match.

Fielding a far heavier, but slower pack, Walsham used their advantage at every opportunity in the scrum and whenever a maul formed.

Wisbech responded well and made all of the running playing attacking rugby.

Jonno Blunt was outstanding at wing forward and the line out functioned well.

But it was Walsham who scored first after 15 minutes to take a 7-0 lead.

Wisbech continued to take the game to the opposition but lost Blunt to the sin bin on 20 minutes, Walsham were unable to capitalise and the score remained 7-0 at half-time.

Wisbech made full use of the slight wind advantage in the second half but suffered at the hands of the referee as the industrious Greg Brownlow received a yellow card. Wisbech were rewarded for their hard work as Rudi Van de Merwe crossed for a try that was converted by Sam Anderson.

Again, Wisbech were reduced to 14 men as Van de Merwe received a 10 minute spell in the bin and Walsham slotted the resultant penalty to take the win.

They entertain Fakenham at home in the league on Saturday while the second team play Mildenhall away in the county cup.
