WISBECH Rugby Club start the new season with a friendly at home against Peterborough Lions on Saturday (3pm)

Their next fixture sees them host Spalding during the Wisbech Rugby Club's fun day at Harecroft Road on August 30, from 2.30pm, and all are welcome.

Club skipper, Pete Lankfer is looking forward to a good campaign in the Eastern Counties Division One.

Several played have been added to the squad that is being coached by Ben Hoyles and Steve Drawbridge.

Ben is supported by his brother Andy Hoyles who returns to Wisbech after a season with Spalding.

Other players returning include scrum-half Andy Claydon and centre Tom Long.

But the casualty list is lengthy with former captain Luke Feaviour and Shane Vickers virtually confined to the side lines for the season.

However, more positively, hooker Nat Humphreys should be back in action around October along with centre Mark Lafferty-Johns.

The first league game is away at Fakenham, on September 13.

Andy Heighton is again in charge of the second team who will be looking forward to a good season and to go one better in the county cup after losing stoically in the final.

Chairman Nigel Harrison is in his second year of office and is looking forward to seeing the mini section continue to grow along with the expansion of the club house facility.

Training is at Harecroft Road on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm start, all are welcome.
