A Wisbech man and his racing team clinched second place at a British Championship after returning to his love of competitive motorsport after more than 25 years.
Bill ‘Wom’ Garner, who secured a double win in Ireland earlier this year, took another prize and second place at Donington Park last month.
He also achieved fastest class lap, first top ten finish and the series sponsor prize as Heritage Parts Centre driver of the day.
With the overall Class B title already decided, five drivers were in the fight for the runners up spot at the final races of the season on October 12.
Snetterton Circuit saw a full grid of more than 30 Formula Vee single seater racecars take to the track for Race 1 at the Norfolk venue.
After a flying start, Wom secured the much needed result of first in class and eighth overall to make it a three way fight for the championship place.
Between races a mechanical issue was discovered, and with no time to fully resolve it, mechanics Toby George and Andrew Humphrey put the car on Row eight for the final race of the season.
With the mechanical issue starting to take effect, the pre work mathematics by Steph Garner came to fruition, as combined with Rachel Shepherd they used the pit board to great effect and Wom managed to bring the car home in 12th place but critically third in class - giving enough points to take the championship place.
Steph said: “Thanks initially must go to Alan Harding of AHS Motorsport Lutterworth for putting faith into the team with the development engine for 2018, amazing support and advice from Mr Formula Vee.
“Local businesses supported TWR throughout the season, probably the best looking car on the grid courtesy of Joe Melton of DezignWar, engineering support from Mat Duff of J M Lane Engineering, financial support from Humphrey Demolition, G3R Solutions Ltd and from further afield The Chequers of Swanley Kent.
“Support has also been thankfully received from various local companies in the form of discounts, skills, services and use of equipment.
“Special thanks to family and friends for supporting our 2018 efforts.”
