LEGENDS of Fenland Park will be paraded on the pitch on Saturday for what was thought to be a final farewell to the stadium.

It was believed that Wisbech's Ridgeons Premier Division encounter with Woodbridge Town would be the last match staged at the stadium.

But after a meeting on Monday the directors announced they would start next season there until the new stadium on Lynn Road is built and conditions are met.

Wisbech manager Roy McManus said: "The fact is that the club will be leaving Fenland Park at some point in the near future. It was thought that Saturday's match would be the last game there, so just thought it's as good a time as any to celebrate the wonderful times have been had at the stadium."

Wisbech first used Fenland Park in 1948.

Terry Marshall and Ray Robson, who played for the Fenmen in the 1950s, are among the names confirmed to attend Saturday's match.

McManus said: "These guys were very special players - amongst the best the club has ever had. There will be players from the 1950s right through to the present day."

McManus plans to use Wisbech Town legend Jackie Gallagher, who became 50 this month, as a substitute in the match.

McManus said: "Jackie's really looking forward to it and I'm sure he'll get a big cheer.

"He scored last week when playing for Peterborough veterans. It would be amazing if he could hit the net on Saturday."

He added: "We were planning to go out with a bang and produce a performance that will be remembered for years to come.

"Our form has been fantastic - we've lost just two out our last 14 games."

Wisbech Town's annual awards' ceremony will be held in the club house after the match.

Two goals from James McManus helped Wisbech come from behind to claim a 2-1 league victory at Harwich and Parkeston on Saturday.

A cross-come-shot gave the hosts the lead after 20 minutes but McManus equalised after a superb run from midfield before half-time.

The quick-thinking midfielder then caught the home defence by surprise when he scored with a low free-kick when everyone expected a cross.
