NE14 LADIES' EAST DIVISION 1N
Wisbech I 0
Colchester I 2
TABLE-topping Colchester visited Wisbech for a clash that could have seen the home side close the gap at the top, with a game still in hand.
But Colchester came with revenge on the cards, after Wisbech knocked them out the league cup earlier this season.
A high-tempo match saw both teams have good spells of possession, but it was Colchester who grabbed the opener from a short corner after 25 minutes.
Despite going a goal down, Wisbech kept pushing and as the half came to a close all that really separated the two teams was the solitary goal.
The second half saw Wisbech start in much the same way as they had played throughout the early stages of the match. The effort was there but frustrations became more apparent as Colchester, who throughout the game held a high defensive line, began to squeeze Wisbech into their own half and assert their authority on the contest.
A second goal for the visitors came midway through the second half from a controversial short corner. Colchester forced their way through despite several brave attempts by the Wisbech defence to clear the ball from danger.
The result did not reflect the determination of Wisbech, who battled hard throughout the match.
