BUDDING Wisbech rugby stars got a taste of life at the top when they spent the weekend with Premier League side Leicester Tigers.

About 40 children from the club, aged from six to nine, walked out in front of a 17,000 crowd and enjoyed a pre-match pitch walk and photo session before watching the Tigers beat Saracens 46-16 on Saturday.

Earlier that day the youngsters enjoyed a coaching session, with top Tigers' coaches with the club's Oval Park training ground.

They met Leicester first team rugby star Richard Blaze, who signed autographs and answered questions on life as a professional rugby player, before watching Wisbech's Jethro Rawling, 17, who is in his first season with the Leicester academy, play in a win over Worcester Warriors.

On Sunday, Leicester Tigers coaches visited Wisbech's Chapel Road ground to give a coaching session to Wisbech's under-15 and under-16 teams.

Chris Finlay, from Wisbech Rugby Club, said: "I wanted to give the kids an idea of what it's like to play for a top rugby club so sent Leicester an e mail last September and they were happy to do it.

"They are always looking to get involved with community clubs and they do this sort of thing regularly.

"The kids absolutely loved it and we're now looking to make it an annual thing.
