WISBECH men’s first team crashed out of the Hockey Association Trophy after a 4-1 defeat at Norwich but Wisbech Ladies first XI maintained their unbeaten run with a derby victory over King’s Lynn Pelicans.

Elsewhere, Wisbech thirds stunned their own club’s second side with a 1-0 win and Long Sutton’s men’s first XI picked up their first three points of the season.

WISBECH went behind in this exciting local derby but Natalie Ward equalised just before half time. A double from Jane Peggs and a goal from Claire Apted capped off a strong second-half performance and maintained Wisbech’s proud unbeaten league record.

A SECOND-HALF hat-trick from Gary Hales and goals from Will Cook and Andy Shore saw Long Sutton pick up their first three points of the season.

WISBECH crashed out of the trophy after a mediocre performance at Norwich. A goal from Brad Apted gave Wisbech hope after going 3-0 down but a fightback failed to materialise when Norwich added a fourth.

WITH pride and much-needed points at stake both Wisbech outfits slogged it out in this tense encounter. Sam Portham’s goal was enough to settle the tie as both ‘keepers excelled.
