On Sunday Wisbech under 16 girls played in the England Hockey Tier 2 Midlands Area Finals at Pelicans Hockey Club in King’s Lynn.

The girls put on a superb display of hockey and they should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved in this competition.

Praise goes to Issy Oldershaw-Ellis who has captained the team and to all the girls who played their part in previous matches, as well as today, you have been a credit to the club.

Thanks also goes to those players who have joined Wisbech and travelled from Dereham, March and Long Sutton, your support has been very much appreciated and all four teams combined together and performed so well, finishing fourth overall out of five.

Wisbech 3-0 Burton

Wisbech 4-4 Bedford

Wisbech 1-3 Pelicans

Wisbech 0-6 Olton

Final placings

1st Bedford

2nd Olton

3rd Pelicans (Kings Lynn)

4th Wisbech

5th Burton

After finishing second in their original group of teams it nearly wasn’t possible for the girls to finish this competition as other clubs were not prepared to travel to complete the tournament.

Thanks to Lorraine Parker for battling the red tape to make it possible for the girls to finish what they started.

Despite being placed in a higher group of teams they proved they thoroughly deserved this opportunity, and played some quality hockey against the higher ranked clubs.

Wisbech Town Hockey Club is running a Hockey Camp open to Year 2 - Year 7 children to encourage participation in the sport and their local club.

All welcome. £3 to non members and free to existing members.

Interested then please contact the club or come along on the day.
