WISBECH Hockey Club’s mixed sevens team suffered defeat in the final of a Peterborough tournament after conceding a heartbreaking last-gasp goal.
The Wisbech side performed strongly throughout the tournament, with youth and experience combining to power them into the semi-finals. The team recorded three victories, one loss and a draw in their group games.
Wisbech stepped up their game in the semi-final with an impressive 2-1 victory and started the final in the same mood with Leanne Williamson smashing them into the lead.
But Peterborough soon found a foothold in the game, scoring their equaliser after sustained pressure. The home side’s winner came in the dying seconds, after their captain managed to convert a penalty corner.
Wisbech’s mixed team would like to thank all of their sponsors, especially Shapers.
