WISBECH Hockey Club suffered national mixed plate final heartbreak against Bedford on Sunday.
Goals from Brad Apted, player of the weekend Natalie Ward and Dan Martell helped the brave mixed team beat Preston 3-2 in Saturday’s England Hockey National Mixed Plate Semi-Final.
However, Wisbech’s historical bid for the coveted trophy fell agonisingly short with a 3-1 defeat. Apted score his side’s goal in the final.
Mixed captain Drew Harvey thanked the club’s sponsors and said: “The defeat does not change the excellent and courageous team performances that got us to the final.
“It may not have been our day but it has definitely been Wisbech’s summer.”
