TALENTED teenagers from Wisbech Grammar School will compete against their coaches next season after powering to back-to-back netball promotions.

The young stars, who have been competing against the adult sides since September last year, have won promotion to the first division of the Wisbech Ladies’ Netball League.

The team entered the league in the lowest division for the winter season but impressed immediately by cruising to the title.

They followed that up over the summer by securing promotion from division two - winning five games and boasting the best goal-difference in the league.

The players, who range from year 10 to upper sixth-form, netted a staggering 268 goals during their seven matches at Thomas Clarkson Community College.

They will now take their place in the highest tier of the league where they will come up against the strongest senior players in the town - including two of their coaches.

Samantha Goodier and Deborah Cook, who play for successful division one side Bassetts, admitted facing their students during the forthcoming winter season was a daunting prospect.

Mrs Goodier said: “When we play against them we hope that our experience will count, but they are all so tall and speedy.

“The team and each individual player has developed a great deal in terms of skill and understanding of tactics and rules of the game.

“They can perform to a high standard and this experience should stand them in very good stead for the school netball season in January.”
