EDF ENERGY JUNIOR VASE FOURTH ROUND
Pegasus Palmerians 0 Wisbech 58
AN OUTSTANDING display of rugby saw Wisbech book their place in the fourth round of the prestigious national EDF Junior Vase competition.
A draw at Twickenham this week pitched Wisbech against Midlands Division Five side Stockwood Park, away, on December 13.
Wisbech travelled to deepest Essex on Saturday and came away with a superb win against a spirited side.
In front of a large crowd, largely made up of the Wisbech supporters, eight tries were scored in the first half underlining Wisbech's authority against a side that had not been beaten all season to give them an unassailable 44-0 half time lead.
Palmerians did offer more resistance in the second half and although Wisbech throttled back a little, a further two tries were added for a final score of 58-0.
Wing forward Tom Martell was named as man of the match for his all action approach to the game, which also emphasised that the forwards provided the platform for the tries to be scored.
Wisbech's try scorers on the day were James Napier (2), Jacques Steynberg (2), Rudi Van de Merwe (2), Ben Hoyles and James Comben, and Neil Hunt and Will Pettit, who added four conversions.
n Wisbech seconds win local derby. See page 86.
