WISBECH Motorcycle Grass Track rider Amy Taylor became the 2008 British Champion in the Senior 'A' class at the at the ACU Youth National Championships held at Ashorne near Leamington Spa.

The 16-year-old student showed the rest of the field the way home in the 250cc class for male and female riders aged from 15 to 18.

She took victory with six straight heat wins.

Amy frequently had to come through the field, encountering wheel-to-wheel duals with nearest rival and second placed finisher on the day, Anthony Slack from Alderley Edge. The 400-metre oval track was dry and very fast.

Amy's father Phil said: "We're absolutely thrilled at Amy's achievement. She has been riding grass track since she was 10 years old and in recent years has won several club meetings but in youth grass track the win doesn't come any bigger than this.

"We nearly didn't make it to the championships as two weeks previous Amy was involved in spectacular but nasty racing incident involving two other riders whilst riding in the 250cc adult class with the Woodbridge Club at Iken in Suffolk.

"Her bike was quite badly damaged resulting in a complete rebuild. The bike wasn't ready until the day before the meeting.

"At the Championships she still had a sore shoulder sustained in the incident which makes her victory all the more impressive".

Amy will be seeded directly into the adult 250cc British Championship finals for 2009. Amy currently rides on a dual youth adult licence and has competed in a few adult meetings at club level she has one more year of youth racing before having to go full time adult racing.
