LONDON LEAGUE DIVISION THREE NORTH EAST

Wisbech 22 Billericay 5

WISBECH are fired up for Saturday's crunch local derby at West Norfolk after starting the season in fine style.

The match, at King's Lynn, will be the first time the two sides have played a competitive derby for two seasons.

Wisbech head coach Steve Drawbridge said: "No prisoners will be taken. My lads were superb on Saturday and well up for this game.

"The last time we played we drew and we will be going for a win this time.

"It should be a fiery match so I hope a good crowd makes the short trip to cheer us on."

As Wisbech turned on the style at Harecroft Road on Saturday, West Norfolk lost 22-9 at home to one of the league title favourites Canvey Island.

Wisbech went into half-time with the scores at 0-0.

A tactical change which saw Andy Claydon switch to scrum-half and Ben Hoyles play fly-half immediately paid off when Hoyles broke through shortly after the re-start to give Wisbech the lead. Shane Vickers converted for 7-0.

The visitors scored an unconverted try against the run of play but after excellent movement and handling Hoyles releasing quality ball for Greg Brownlow to crash through from 20 metres to make it 12-5.

Neil Hunt scored in the corner for 17-5 before Ben Chapman completed the scoring with the try of the match.

Chapman made up an enormous amount of ground to overlap Hoyles and collect a quality pass and go on to score his first try for the club.

Drawbridge said: "Tom Paybody was our man of the match for his work ethic and support play and Andy McCubbin and Ben Chapman were outstanding for us."

* Paul Rogers and Jono Blunt were Wisbech second team's outstanding players as they went down 40-0 at Norwich in the Greene King Merit League.

But a young, fit Norwich side had too much and Josh Anderson's miss-hit clearance kick that ended up going backwards near the end of the game, summed up a poor day for the seconds, who are at home to Holt on Saturday.
