Wisbech boss wants Nimmo

WISBECH boss Roy McManus is deep in negotiations with Liam Nimmo and is attempting to bring the striker back to Fenland Park.

McManus said: "He's been top of my wish list for a while and scored a lot of goals when he was last here. He's got a lot of natural ability and his hold up play will take pressure off us."

He added: "I will be talking to Liam at the weekend and will get his decision there and then."

McManus's bid may be thwarted by Spalding who also put in an approach for the player.

Nimmo, who left Wisbech in the summer for Holbeach United, is one of four strikers McManus is currently chasing, including a striker in Skegness.

McManus said: "Finances are tight and as much as I'd like to get a couple in, realistically I can only afford one and Liam's my main target.

"We have good youngsters coming through but they're not quite ready so I'm trying to bring in experienced players."

If Nimmo signs he will feature in the midweek game against King's Lynn Reserves.

McManus is now focusing on tomorrow's trip to Norwich United.

The Norfolk side sit one place above Wisbech at fifth bottom and McManus describes it as a "massive game."

"It's a must-win game and with them in a similar situation, we'll be disappointed if we don't get a result", he said.

Lee Day will be back to bolster the defence and Grant Rider may be fit.

McManus was pleased with an encouraging performance as they drew 2-2 with Kirkley and Pakefield on Saturday.

He said: "Kirkley won 7-1 in their previous game so we got a good result against a confident side."

Wisbech went in front through a tremendous strike from Billy Smith, but then conceded two scrappy goals.

The manager was pleased to see Stuart Ablett's equaliser come from a set piece straight off the training ground.

He said: "It's nice to score from set pieces you've been working hard on and it proves they are worth practicing."

Stuart Cobb was tackled from behind in the area in the final minute but Wisbech's penalty appeals were waved away.
