Wisbech Town boss Dick Creasey says his side’s extended break from league action probably came at the wrong time in their bid to move up the table.

The Fenman were last in league action on September 27 when they dispatched Desborough Town 6-1, their third league win on the bounce.

But Creasey fears the gap between games could have checked the team’s winning momentum.

The Wisbech boss was speaking ahead of tomorrow’s match against United Counties league leaders Yaxley, who sit 12 points ahead of Wisbech, albeit having played a game more.

He said: “Sometimes breaks can come at the wrong time. We would probably have been better off to keep going to keep our momentum up because we had three wins in three and scored 12 goals.

“But we’ve got to take the rough with the smooth and we’ve got a big game to look forward to at the weekend with the visit of Yaxley.

“They have got a good squad and are flying at the moment so, consequently, we are expected a very hard game. But it is the sort of challenge that we will relish and the lads are looking forward to it.”

Creasey will have a full squad of players available to him for Saturday’s match and the only headache he is expecting is over which 11 to select.

He said: “We have been training as normal and getting ourselves ready for the match and if we can attract a good crowd down to the club then it will certainly help push us on.

“If we can get the win, it will even things up a bit and add to our momentum. At the moment they are 12 points ahead of us having played three games more so if we win, it will be down to nine points with three games in hand.”

Kick off at the Fenland Stadium is 3pm.
