WISBECH Town Football Club's board remains confident of a bright future despite recording a loss of more than 84,000.

The club's statement of accounts for the period ending May 2008 shows the club to have lost 84,373.

They lost 37,546 the previous year.

Wisbech Town held their annual general meeting on Monday and supporter and editor of the club website Spencer Larham said: "Most of the extra loss is down to paying off a loan that was needed to secure our move to the new ground.

"But the club has paid off all the people it needs to and we are confident that everything will go though smoothly with the new ground and it will be ready for the season after next."

Board member Jeff Fitt who is in charge of the ground move told shareholders at Monday's meeting that work should start on the entrance to the new Lynn Road ground some time in June or July.

Mr Larham said: "The fact that we are now solvent and moving forward is very positive, especially when you look at what is happening across non-league football at the moment.

"I read in the press that King's Lynn are planning to pay the majority of their players between 75 and 120 per week next season. That's more like what Wisbech pays players and they play at a significantly higher level than us."

He added: "I've been to about 10 Wisbech annual general meetings and I have to say this is probably the most progressive one of them all."

The meeting also saw Mary Gower elected to the board of directors.

All other directors were re-elected.

Mr Larham believes this is the first time Wisbech have had a female director for more than 10 years.

West Norfolk Council approved plans to build a new stadium on land west of Lynn Road on the northern outskirts of Wisbech in March last year.

The club sold Fenland Park for 1.4 million to Purple Properties last year to pay off debts of around 300,000 and have since been playing temporarily in Outwell.
