Wisbech Town manager Brett Whaley has urged his players to relax and not feel burdened by high expectations.
On Saturday, Rob Hughes’ early goal was enough to see the Fenmen beat Diss Town 1-0 at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium in the FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round.
It was far from smooth going for Wisbech - their keeper Aaron Butcher had to be in fine form to deny the dogged visitors.
The Fenmen have won all three games this season, but Whaley feels performances have not matched results.
He said: “We’ve done ok. Results have been good, better than our performances. We’ve not quite recreated what we were doing in pre-season, but we are winning games, which is the most important thing.
“In pre-season we played really good football but in the league you don’t get as much time on the ball.
“Also, maybe the players are feeling a little bit of pressure. Because of how we did in pre-season, the expectancy levels have gone up. People feel we can achieve something special.

“Hopefully the fact we have won our games and got points on the board early means we can start to relax a bit.”
Up next for Wisbech is an away day at Harborough Town in the United Counties League on Saturday. Steven Reid will be missing, but Jon Fairweather will be available.
Whaley said: “Harborough is a place I’ve found quite difficult to go to. They have a young side who will put us under a lot of pressure.
“In my experience, the first goal will be key. If they score first, they will be very difficult to break down. But if we score first, we can dent their confidence and dictate the game.
“From our perspective, we just need to go out there and relax a bit.”
