Wisbech paracyclist Jody Cundy topped the Para-Cycling World Championship podium once again after cycling to two gold medals last weekend.

The 37-year-old former swimmer sped to victory in the C4 1km time trial last Thursday (March 17) at the global competition, and then joined team-mates Jon-Allan Butterworth and Louis Rolfe - a late replacement in the event for Kadeena Cox, who earlier this week was reclassified as a C4 meaning she could no longer ride in the team sprint - to grab gold with a world-record time of 49.268 in the mixed sprint on Sunday.

The team’s feat made even more impressive due to the fact that Cundy and Butterworth hadn’t trained with Rolfe, who is also from Cambridgeshire, prior to the race.

Cundy, who will represent Great Britain at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in September, told British Cycling: “We did no practice with him (Louis) - just literally that team sprint we did in September (at the British Cycling National Track Championships) and bang - we knocked it out the park.

“We did a 50.1 this morning which qualified us fastest, which was a surprise, and then to go nearly a second quicker than that this afternoon was just outstanding.

“Gold medal, world record, can’t really complain.”
