LAST Saturday saw Holbeach Angling Club hold an open match on the South Holland Drain which, this Sunday, sees the fourth round of the King of the Fens take place on the same stretch.
Wayne Swinscoe took top spot from the end peg with 7lb of roach and skimmers. Second place went to Barry Smith from the other end peg. Barry also had roach and skimmers for 6-12.
This Sunday's match starts at 11am, with an 8.30am draw at the Hat and Feathers at Sutton St James.
Tydd Gote Angling Club evening matches are very popular and, last Tuesday, there were 18 anglers fishing. Out in front with two good bream was Kenny Goode with 10-9. Dick Paul was second with 7-0.
Last Thursday, there were 21 fishing and I came out on top with 11lb of skimmer bream. All my fish were caught on the tip using maggot as hook bait. John Bates was a close second with 10-1
Then, last Sunday, Jim Neilson took top spot with 6-0 and Jocky Lemon was second with 5-9.
Manea Angling Club fished the Old Nene at March above the bypass bridge and Barry Leonard took top spot with 7-6, which included a 4lb tench. Second place went to Mark Dunham with 5-4.
Last Sunday saw the pool at Fields End Water full of anglers fishing for the Craig Kent Memorial Cup. This was the first year of this event as Craig died earlier this year. Cassano's sponsored the match and supplied the trophies.
The match was a pairs match and there was a tie for first place. Tim Green and Tony Larham, and myself and Ray Wilson, finished on 12 points but the cup went to Tim and Tony on weight difference. Jonny Bird and Pat North were third with 16 points.
Individuals on the day were Tim Green 27lb, Shaun Stracan 26lb 8oz and myself 25-14.
Highflyers Lake saw Dave Pearce Jnr take top spot for the second week running in the Saturday Open. Dave had carp to 12lb in his winning weight of 249lb. Titch Marsh was second with 193lb. Then, on Sunday, Steve Norman took top spot with 240lb and Fred Nixon was second with 213lb.
Townsend Angling Club fished on Eldernell Lake at Coates. This match incorporates two matches - one is carp only and the other is any kind of fish. Out in front in both matches was Denis Sanbridge who landed 78lb of carp to 10lb in one net and in his mixed net he had 9lb of rudd and perch.
Second place in the carp match went to 14-year-old George Vaser with 37-6 and Shaun Humphrey was third with 27-8. Second place in the mixed net match went to Matt Rust with 6-4 and Andy Adams was third.
This Sunday Townsend Angling Club will be leaving the market place at 6.30am to fish Barford Lake near Norwich.
Mill View Angling Club were in action last Sunday on Jay Lake at Pidley and Gary Burton took top spot with 68lb. Second went to Andy Day with 60lb and Steve Smalley was third with 56lb. Last Tuesday Mill View Senior Citizens were in action at Magpie Lake at Pidley and Ray Sladden came out on top with 78lb. John Hermington was next with 58lb and John Millard was third with 56lb.
Finally, Mill View's shop assistant Alex Bates won the Peterborough Summer League match on the Nene last Sunday, with 18lb of roach and skimmers.
