WORLD Cup-winning England football hero Sir Geoff Hurst cast his eye over some of Whittlesey's budding football stars last week when Wasps Juniors enjoyed a dream day out at Wembley Stadium.

The under-10s side - representing the Cambridgeshire FA - joined 55 teams from across the country for some expert coaching with former Manchester United youth supremo Eric Harrison at the McDonald's National Football Festival.

Hurst, who bagged a hat-trick in England's 1966 World Cup final victory, passed on words of wisdom to the Wasps, whose fair play record in the Fenland and District League earned them their day at Wembley.

Wasps manager Dave Atkinson said: "Playing at Wembley is the pinnacle of any player's career and I'm sure it was an experience they will never forget.

"They played amazingly well in their game at Wembley and won 2-1 with goals from Robert Miller and Jacob Beni."

Hurst said: "I was delighted to be involved with a scheme that was able to give the kids the chance to play at Wembley."

"When I looked at the faces of the Wasps team when they came off the pitch I could see what it meant to them.

"They've had the chance to play at this great stadium and you never know some of them might be back one-day playing professionally.
