WISBECH Town were unable to finish their pre-season preparations on a high note on Saturday as the Fenmen were beaten 2-1 by Spalding United.
The UCL side scored two goals inside three second-half minutes to take control of the tie at the Sir Halley Stewart Field.
Wisbech hit back after 69 minutes when Liam Nimmo raced through to score. This set up an exciting finish but the Fenmen were unable to find an equaliser.
Former Stevenage goalkeeper Ryan Rayner, on trial with Wisbech, came off the bench to play the last 20 minutes.
The Fenmen begin their Ridgeons Premier Division campaign on Saturday when they meet Wivenhoe Town at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.
