TWO former Fenmen have rejoined the club during a week in which Wisbech Town have enjoyed mixed fortunes on the pitch.

Versatile defender Dan Ruscillo played for Wisbech from 1998-2000 and following spells at Blackstones, Boston Town and Deeping Rangers, the defender looks set to return to Fenland Park.

He will be joined by midfielder Adam Weston who, having moved back to Fenland from Cornwall, put pen to paper on Tuesday night to confirm his return to Wisbech.

Weston played for Wisbech before moving to King's Lynn, where he made 42 appearances in the 2002/03 season.

Work commitments resulted in his spell in Cornwall, where he played in the South Western League with Falmouth and Truro.

The two signings have pleased Wisbech manager Dick Creasey, who this week saw his team beaten in the Ridgeons Premier League but clinch a nailbiting victory over Mildenhall Town to book a place in the Cambs Invitation Cup semi-finals.

Creasey said: "Both players have valuable experience and they will certainly strengthen our squad.

"Dan pulled a hamstring at work in midweek and so he will be out for a week or two but I fully expect him to sign.

"Adam is a good ball player in midfield and when I heard that he had moved back to the area I jumped at the chance to bring him back to the club."

Illness and injury played havoc with his squad before Saturday's league match at Leiston and the under-par Fenmen slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

But with the players returning to form and fitness, Tuesday evening's cup victory has given Creasey an opportunity to aim for silverware this season.

Penalties were required to decide the winners after a goalless, but entertaining, match and it was the Fenmen who kept their cool to go through.

Home keeper Nick Conroy produced a good save and Stuart Cobb netted the winning spot-kick as Wisbech won the match 4-2 on penalties.

Creasey said: "I was pleased with our performance on Tuesday. Neither side put out their strongest team but there were some very encouraging displays from our lads.

"Both Wayne Morton and Lewis Cook played the full 120 minutes and I thought they were excellent.

"It is good to know that I can call on them for first-team action any time from now on and they will perform.

"The competition could be the last opportunity for silverware this season and the further we progress the more we want to win it."

The league defeat to Leiston disappointed Creasey but he was philosophical about the result. He said: "It was one of those games that you have to put behind you.

"Leiston won the game fair and square but the lads were struggling and I understand that.

"I told them I wasn't happy with the performance and normally I would be giving them grief but I will excuse them this time."

Weston will be in the squad that entertains Harwich and Parkeston tomorrow (Saturday) and Creasey is looking to get his league campaign back on track with a victory.

He said: "No disrespect to Harwich, but it is a game that we should be winning. We have several players returning to full fitness and this time I will be expecting a good performance.

"I want to push on and move higher up the table because I am not happy with our current league position."

Lewis Cook will be in the squad for the match, and Creasey is hopeful that club skipper Steve Appleby will return to action tomorrow, having recovered from an ankle injury.

Lewis Brooks and Darren Jimson, who were both substituted with tight hamstrings during Tuesday's cup clash, are expected to be fit for the game.
