Ridgeons Premier Division: Wisbech Town 3 Stanway Rovers 1

IN-FORM Wisbech Town cruised to their sixth consecutive win on Saturday as they leapfrogged Stanway Rovers in the Ridgeons Premier Division with a 3-1 victory.

Rovers started Saturday above Wisbech in fourth, but they now find themselves below the Fenmen after returning with nothing from their trip to the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

Stanway, who had not been beaten since September 24, started brightly but Wisbech quickly found the fluent football that had seen them score 17 goals in their last five games.

Liam Nimmo beat the visiting ‘keeper to a looping cross to toe-poke Wisbech into the lead on the stroke of half time.

The Fenmen doubled their advantage shortly after the break when Matt Lunn waltzed through the Stanway defence to score and a 60th minute penalty from Callum Reed gave them further breathing space.

The visitors netted their consolation 10 minutes from the end, as a looping header beat Fenmen ‘keeper Ryan Rayner.

Wisbech, who stretched their unbeaten run to nine games with today’s win, travel to Woodbridge Town on Saturday.
