THE future continues to look bright for rugby in Wisbech after young stars from across the area celebrated a fortnight of cup glory.
Wisbech Grammar School’s Under-13s started a triumphant two weeks by winning the Lewis Booth Memorial Trophy in a sevens tournament last weekend.
The youngsters had also played the day before - but they produced an energetic display to dominate their group.
Luke Marney and Henry Thornton scored the tries which secured the trophy as Wisbech beat Ampleforth Preparatory School in a tense final.
But things got even better at the weekend as Wisbech Rugby Club’s youth sides powered to more silverware.
The under-11s led the way as more than 40 teams visited Spalding for a hotly-contested rugby festival.
Try-scorers Aaron Brundle, Max Smith, Luke Green, Jack Wicks, Cameron Finlay and Finlay Wilcox helped Wisbech claim the under-11 shield, beating Peterborough 10-5 in the final.
The under-8s also returned with medals after finishing as runners-up to Stamford.
William Paul, Freddie Riddington, Oliver Murdoch, Joshua Bell, Oliver Mann, Sam Randall, Jonathan Harding and Sam Curwen all crashed over as the youngsters recorded four wins before their narrow loss in the final.
