THREE individuals are being considered for the vacant manager's position at March Town United Football Club.

The board met on Thursday to discuss appointing a replacement for Brett Whaley who quit the job on Monday, following two seasons at the helm.

March chairman Phil White remained tight lipped on the candidates' names but said that one has Ridgeons League experience.

He said: "We had a good meeting on Thursday. Everyone is sad to see Brett leave as he's done a tremendous job for the club, but we are still in good spirits and optimistic about the future.

"The three candidates will send letters outlining their hopes and plans for March Town and give details about their experience in the game and we will then look to take it to the interview stage.

"We're expecting to make a decision around June 9, after I return from holiday in Turkey."

Former Hares boss Steve Wilson has recently taken charge at Doddington while March assistant manager Jamie Weston is away on holiday.

Steve Taylor, who managed Wisbech Town for the first half of last season, is one person who many would expect to be considered.

He has Ridgeons League experience with Ely City and Haverhill as well as the Fenmen and lives in Chatteris.

He controversially quit Wisbech after he became fed up with abuse from supporters on the fans' forum of the club website.

Taylor said: "I've had no contact from March but I'd be prepared to discuss it if they approached me.

"I've been talking to a couple of Ridgeons League clubs about next season and don't yet know what I'll be doing."

Whaley quit March because he is concerned that several players would leave the club due to the financial difficulties the Hares are facing.

He said work and family commitments would prevent him the time needed to rebuild the squad.

Whaley's wife, Claire, had a son, Josh, in April.

White said: "I would like to reassure all March fans that the club is in the black and will remain that way.

"March, like many clubs, will be affected by the credit crunch but there is no risk of us going under.
