ANDREW STACEY won the final of Tydd St Giles Golf Club's Gold Medal competition.

Competitors qualified by virtue of their medal performances throughout the previous 12 months; and in superb conditions for golf there were some excellent scores returned in a tight finish.

Stacey won with a net 66 off a 15 handicap to edge out Luke Rowell and Malcolm Stead, who both returned net 67s off of 12 and nine handicaps respectively.

Elsewhere, Andy Hicks tore the field apart to win Tydd St Giles Golf Club's Autumn Open.

For most of the day, which was played in superb conditions, it looked like a count-back would be required to find a winner and there was a host of 66s.

But home player Hicks, playing off 23, recorded a net 61 to take the trophy.

This was enough to beat Tydd junior William Wadsley into second place and Phil Goodman into third.

Worthy note was the performance of Keith Griffiths who despite taking 17 shots on a par five hole, turned in a net 76 to get himself cut buy a shot to 19.
