WISBECH Town boss Steve Taylor is targeting two midfielders, one of which has just been released from a professional club.

Taylor revealed this week that the other player has Ridgeons League experience but wished to keep the two players' identities secret as both are being courted by other clubs.

Taylor is expecting both players to feature in Saturday's friendly match at home against Peterborough Northern Star.

He said: "Both are good footballers and good lads. I'd like to have a proper look at them to see if I think they are able to cut it. If so, I'll try and push through with a deal, if not, I'll look elsewhere."

Striker Tom Benjamin has quit the Fenmen to team up with his father and ex-Wisbech boss Ian Benjamin, at BGB Southern League Division One-bound Soham Town Rangers.

Roy McManus signed Benjamin from Desborough Town in January.

The 20-year-old target-man was competing with Darren Edey for a place in the Wisbech team last season and found chances limited.

Edey retired at the end of last season.

Two of Taylor's targets have snubbed the Fenmen in the last few days.

Kevin Leggett, a 36-year-old who can play as a striker or defender and had spells with Wisbech in 2001 and 2004 has signed a new contract with his current club, Diss Town.

Mark Abbs has signed for Taylor's old club Haverhill.

Taylor was dealt a further blow when Mark Jimson suffered a knee injury in Tuesday night's 7-0 friendly win over Outwell Swifts.

The defensive midfielder was clattered in a heavy challenge just five minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute and is expected to miss the start of the season.
